The course is situated on the edge of pine trees and cork oaks and the first nine holes were originally designed by the Spanish Ryder Cup player Antonio Garrido and opened in 1991. The other nine holes were designed by Santa Maria's own technical team and opened in 1996. The course is increasingly becoming popular with golfers due to it’s lush green locality in the valleys.
The course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and lakes form natural hazards. If you drive well you will like this course and the fairways are always in good condition. The greens are generously on the large side and are considered some of the best along the coast.
